BlackBerry turnaround strategy become wrong turn strategy – Bye bye BIS

After long time speculation about the end if BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) with the newly launched divice Blackberry Z10 which comes without traditionally knows unlimited data plan with the device.

Mybroadband reports,   Both Vodacom and MTN have revealed that the unlimited data service that had become a hallmark of BlackBerry devices in South Africa (BIS) will not be offered with the BlackBerry Z10 on their respective networks.

Details of Vodacom’s new contract packages for the BlackBerry Z10 recently emerged, revealing that the network operator will not be offering any form of unlimited data plan with the device. Vodacom will only offer unlimited BBM on certain contracts until 31 May 2013

The same is true of MTN, who also announced BlackBerry Z10 contract packages with a warning to customers that devices running on the new BlackBerry 10 platform will not support the existing BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) data packages.

This move seems like a wrong turn ever Blackberry took, to compromise the bigger market with untested better user experience they believe Blackberry 10 will offer.  My view is that they are moving back to square one where blackberry was known as is for so called affording individuals. No one can deny the fact that Blackberry with BIS dominated markets like our in SA because of its internet access affordability.

Now the question remains, is our mobile operators (MTN, Cell C, Vodacom or 8ta) ready to bring data packages that are equal to the value for what you give?

Are you going to buy BlackBerry Z10 without BIS?
